Hi! I’m Learkana.
Thanks for checking out my site! I am a diasporic Chinese-Cambodian artist residing on the unceded lands of the Yokuts and the Miwok, colonially known as the Central Valley, CA, US. My pronouns are she/her/hers.
My visual art has been described as “warm” and “bold,” as well as “off-putting” and “distracting”; I personally have described it as “the healthiest coping mechanism I have.” My chosen medium is digital illustration. I welcome you to explore my art and see how my work resonates (or doesn’t) with you!
I’ve always enjoyed doodling since I was little, but never took my drawing seriously until early 2020, aka early pandemic times. (You know, back when we were preoccupied with baking bread and Instagram quizzes and thinking it was all going to end in a few months. It was a simpler time, kind of.) I started with sketch paper and color pencils and now almost exclusively use Procreate on an iPad.
I love experimenting with textures and patterns and am very fond of using lots of bright colors in my work. I especially enjoy drawing portraits of people of color and cats, in that order. I am a maximalist, a feminist, a Virgo sun, and a Pisces moon; I am deeply passionate about social justice, the pursuit of happiness, and boba; and am certain that all these things inform my artistic process.
I set up this site as a virtual portfolio of my visual art and am now open for commission-based work! I will prioritize progressive causes, movement campaigns, BIPOC, and people who want me to draw their cats :o) Feel free to browse my work here (will be updated sporadically).
